We challenge you to respond in writing to this beautifully intriguing fine art print titled ‘Inside I’m jiving’ by Seacourt Print Workshop artist and printmaker Pen Jones.

Your challenge is as follows:

1. Take 15 minutes to make some immediate notes on the piece of artwork.
2. Using these notes, spend no longer than 1 hour writing a first draft a piece of original poetry, short fiction or creative non-fiction in response to the piece. POETRY: No longer than 40 lines. PROSE: No longer than 300 words.
3. Next, spend an additional 1 hour editing your piece.
4. Finally, email your piece to thebangorliteraryjournal@hotmail.com no later than 5pm Thursday 2nd October. Paste your piece of writing into the body of the email. Include a 50 word third-person biography. Title your email ASPECTS EKPHRASTIC -(your full writer’s name). Avoid calling your piece of writing after the title of the artwork.
5. By Friday morning- a selection of Ekphrastic Challenge Winners will be selected and they will be invited to read their piece at Aspects Literary Festival on Sunday 5th October at Bangor Castle (3pm).
