Submission Window for Winter Issue 25: OPEN 9am 15th Oct- Midnight 15th Nov 2026

You may submit up to THREE WINTER themed pieces for this special Seasonal Edition. For example: A submission can be THREE flash fiction; or a mixture of poetry, flash, photography or artwork etc to make up your THREE submissions. Please send all of these in the same email.

We are looking for your best seasonal themed flash fiction, artwork, photography, hybrid pieces and poetry.

The Submission Window closes at midnight 15th November 2026 (wherever you are!).

The Launch of Winter Issue 25 will take place in person/ or online mid-December 2026.  Details to be confirmed. Those selected for issue 25 will be notified by midnight 5th December 2026 and will be invited to attend the online or in-person launch event and read their piece or display their artwork at the event. Registration details will be available soon- free to attend.

Please ensure to follow the guidelines as set out below.  Remember to send a photo and a short third person biography (around 50 words if possible) alongside your submission, even if you have submitted to us before.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES FOR ISSUE 25

All work is read anonymously by Editors Paul Daniel Rafferty and Amy Louise Wyatt.

Poetry Submissions:

    • Please email your submissions to thebangorliteraryjournal@hotmail.com with the heading (SUBMISSIONS-Name-POETRY- ISSUE 25 WINTER)
    • Submit a maximum of THREE previously unpublished poems (We consider it published if it has appeared on: social media, online or in print) no longer than 40 lines long.
    • Poems should be single spaced and in New Times Roman, size 12.
    • Poems should be in a separate Word document attached to the email. There should not be any traces of your name within the document, as work is read anonymously.
    • Include a brief note, third person author’s bio (no more than one paragraph), contact details and an author photo/image in the email.
    • We accept all forms of poetry, but it should be your best work. Please check for typos before sending it to us.
    • It must be your OWN work. Poetry written with the use of AI will not be accepted.
    • If your work is accepted, we will email you within one month from the deadline. If you do not hear from us within this time frame, then please contact us.
    • If your work is not chosen, please feel free to submit again when we put out the next call.
    • Overtly sexual, violent or hate-filled poetry will not be published.
    • Work cannot be changed once it has been sent to us.
    • We do not accept simultaneous submissions- Please do not send work to us that is under consideration elsewhere. We are a TWO PERSON team and this adds to our already massive workload. We will get back to you with an acceptance or thank you–as soon as we can, so if your piece is not accepted, you can send it elsewhere. 
    • Unfortunately we cannot pay a fee for work published.
    • You retain the rights to your work, however we can use your work in upcoming features etc.  Please credit us in future with first publication of the piece.

  • Flash Fiction Submissions:

    • Please email your submissions to thebangorliteraryjournal@hotmail.com with the heading (SUBMISSIONS-Name-FLASH FICTION-ISSUE 25 WINTER)
    • Submit a maximum of THREE previously unpublished pieces of flash fiction (We consider it published if it has appeared on: social media, online or in print) no longer than 300 words long. (We have extended this from our previous 250 word limit!)
    • Work should be single-spaced and in New Times Roman, size 12.
    • Pieces should be in one separate Word document attached to the email. There should not be any traces of your name within the document, as work is read anonymously.
    • Include a brief note, third-person author’s bio (no more than one paragraph), contact details and an author photo/image in the body of the email
    • It should be your best work.
    • The work sent must be your own. Poetry written with the use of AI will not be accepted.
    • If your work is accepted, we will email you within one month from the deadline. If you do not hear from us within this time frame, then please contact us.
    • If your work is not chosen, please feel free to submit again when we put out the next call.

  • Art and Photography Submissions:

    • Please email your submissions to thebangorliteraryjournal@hotmail.com with the heading (SUBMISSIONS-Name-IMAGES- ISSUE 25 WINTER)
    • Submit a maximum of THREE previously unpublished images (however, they can have appeared on social media etc) just not in other journals.  Please attach a couple of lines explaining each piece.
    • Images should be high resolution and attached to the email as JPEG files-with the titles, medium and a couple of lines about the work in the body of the email.
    • Include a brief note, third-person artist’s bio (no more than one paragraph), contact details and an artist photo/image in the body of the email.
    • If your work is accepted, we will email you within one month from the deadline. If you do not hear from us within this time frame, then please contact us.
    • If your work is not chosen, please feel free to submit again when we put out the next call.
    • Overtly sexual, violent or hate filled images will not be published.
    • Work cannot be changed once it has been sent to us.

  • Reviews: WE are not looking for reviews for issue 25.  We will be looking for reviews for issue 26, so please wait until that call-out in early 2027 to submit one.

    • **Opens again for issue 26 in 2027- Please wait on the call-out** If you are interested in submitting a review of a recent literary publication- please email us with ‘REVIEW’ in the title.  We will only be able to include short two reviews per issue, so please send us only ONE review for consideration per submission period.

  • Hybrid Pieces / Experimental Pieces/ Screenplay Extracts: We’d love to see more of these!

  • Same type of guidelines as above- but we’ll leave the rest up to you! Just state (SUBMISSIONS-Name-HYBRID/ EXP- ISSUE 25 WINTER) Collaborative, Community and Group pieces are always welcome! For example: A poet and a painter submitting a joint WINTER themed piece or conversation-style submission.  A photographer and a flash fiction writer collaborataing on a WINTER submission where the photographic images depict/mirror the written imagery.  A multi-platform creative working on a solo WINTER piece.  A college/ organisation/ group of creatives or a collective, creating a sequence of haikus, for example…or a collage of photographs around the WINTER theme. How about a snippet from a script or screenplay with WINTER themes depicted by a comic book artist? We really are open to anything within reason- as long as it is linked to WINTER!
