We are delighted to announce that Poetry & a Pint in BACK after a break! Join us at The Court House, Bangor to celebrate its return with two stellar multi-award winning poets headlining the night. |Linda McKenna and Maurice Devitt will kick of the event with readings of some of their award winning work. They will also have signed copies of their poetry books available!

After the break, there will be fifteen (3 minute) open mic slots available. You can grab an open mic slot when booking your ticket on The Courthouse Website.

And of course… there is no need to perform! There are lots of audience member tickets available, for those who wish to soak in a wonderful night of award winning poetry and the voices of talented poets during the open mic.

Linda McKenna

Linda McKenna ’s second collection, Four Thousand Keys, was published by Doire Press in 2024. The title poem from her debut collection, In the Museum of Misremembered Things, (Doire Pres 2020), won the 2020 An Post Irish Book Awards Poem of the Year. She has had poems published in a wide range of publications including Poetry Ireland Review, Crannog, Abridged, the Honest Ulsterman, Banshee, The North. She won the Seamus Heaney Award for New Writing and the Red Line Poetry Prize in 2018. She has read her poems at a wide variety of venues including Listowel Writers’ Week, the Cork International Book Festival, the National Poetry Library, the Belfast Book Festival, the Red Line Festival, the Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris, the University of Stuttgart and at venues throughout Northern Ireland and beyond. She is a member of the poetry collective Femina Culpa.

Maurice Devitt

Born in Dublin, Maurice Devitt completed an MA in Poetry Studies at Mater Dei following a 30-year career in Insurance & Banking. His debut collection ‘Growing Up in Colour’ was published by Doire Press in 2018, and his second collection ‘Some of These Stories are True’ came out in May 2023. Maurice is the chairperson of The Hibernian Writers’ Group, and his Pushcart-nominated poem, ‘The Lion Tamer Dreams of Office Work’, was the title poem of an anthology of the group’s work published by Alba Publishing in 2015. He is curator of the Irish Centre for Poetry Studies Facebook page where he posts featured poems, news and poetry articles on a daily basis.
