Submission Window Now Closed for WINTER Themed Issue 21

You may submit up to FOUR WINTER themed pieces for this special Seasonal Edition. For example: A submission can be FOUR flash fiction; or a mixture of poetry, flash, photography or artwork etc to make up your four submissions. Please send all of these in the same email.

THE THEME is WINTER: We are looking for your best seasonal themed flash fiction, artwork, photography, hybrid pieces and poetry.

The Submission Window closes at midnight 15th November 2024.

The Launch of Winter Issue 21 will take place at The Blackberry Path Studios, Gray’s Hill, Bangor, Co Down on Saturday 14th December at 12.30pm-1.30pm. Those selected for issue 21 will be notified by Wed 4th December and will be invited to attend to launch event and read their piece or display their artwork at the event. You can get a free ticket for the event.

Please ensure to follow the guidelines as set out below.  Remember to send a photo and a short third person biography alongside your submission, even if you have submitted to us before.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES FOR ISSUE 21

All work is read anonymously by Editors Paul Daniel Rafferty and Amy Louise Wyatt.

Poetry Submissions:

    • Please email your submissions to thebangorliteraryjournal@hotmail.com with the heading (SUBMISSIONS-Name-POETRY- ISSUE 21 WINTER)
    • Submit a maximum of FOUR previously unpublished poems (We consider it published if it has appeared on: social media, online or in print) no longer than 40 lines long.
    • Poems should be single spaced and in New Times Roman, size 12.
    • Poems should be in a separate Word document attached to the email. There should not be any traces of your name within the document, as work is read anonymously.
    • Include a brief note, third person author’s bio (no more than one paragraph), contact details and an author photo in the email.
    • We accept all forms of poetry, but it should be your best work.
    • If your work is accepted, we will email you within one month from the deadline. If you do not hear from us within this time frame, then please contact us.
    • If your work is not chosen, please feel free to submit again when we put out the next call.
    • Overtly sexual, violent or hate filled poetry will not be published.
    • Work cannot be changed once it has been sent to us.
    • We do not accept simultaneous submissions
    • Unfortunately we cannot pay a fee for work published.
    • You retain the rights to your work, however we can use your work in upcoming features etc.  Please credit us in future with first publication of the piece.
  • Flash Fiction Submissions:

    • Please email your submissions to thebangorliteraryjournal@hotmail.com with the heading (SUBMISSIONS-Name-FLASH FICTION-ISSUE 21 WINTER)
    • Submit a maximum of FOUR previously unpublished pieces of flash fiction (We consider it published if it has appeared on: social media, online or in print) no longer than 250 words long.
    • Work should be single spaced and in New Times Roman, size 12.
    • Pieces should be in one separate Word document attached to the email. There should not be any traces of your name within the document, as work is read anonymously.
    • Include a brief note, third person author’s bio (no more than one paragraph), contact details and an author photo in the body of the email
    • It should be your best work.
    • If your work is accepted, we will email you within one month from the deadline. If you do not hear from us within this time frame, then please contact us.
    • If your work is not chosen, please feel free to submit again when we put out the next call.

  • Art and Photography Submissions:

    • Please email your submissions to thebangorliteraryjournal@hotmail.com with the heading (SUBMISSIONS-Name-IMAGES- ISSUE 21 WINTER)
    • Submit a maximum of FOUR previously unpublished images (however, they can have appeared on social media etc) just not in other journals.  Please attach a couple of lines explaining each piece.
    • Images should be high resolution and attached to the email as JPEG files-with the titles, medium and a couple of lines about the work in the body of the email.
    • Include a brief note, third person artist’s bio (no more than one paragraph), contact details and an artist photo in the body of the email.
    • If your work is accepted, we will email you within one month from the deadline. If you do not hear from us within this time frame, then please contact us.
    • If your work is not chosen, please feel free to submit again when we put out the next call.
    • Overtly sexual, violent or hate filled images will not be published.
    • Work cannot be changed once it has been sent to us.

  • Reviews: WE are not looking for reviews for issue 21.  We will be looking for reviews for issue 22, so please wait until that call out to submit one.

    • **Opens again for issue 21**If you are interested in submitting a review of a recent literary publication- please email us with ‘REVIEW’ in the title.  We will only be able to include short two reviews per issue, so please send us only ONE review for consideration per submission period.
  • Hybrid Pieces / Experimental Pieces/ Screenplay Extracts: We’d love to see more of these!
